چکیده

Heterotopic pancreas is defined as the presence of pancreatic tissue, outside its usual location, which lacks anatomical and vascular continuity with the pancreas proper. The heterotopic pancreas can accompany various lesions of the pancreas, such as acute pancreatitis, epithelial cyst, pancreatic pseudocyst, and exocrine and endocrine tumors. Tumor-like lesions arising from heterotopic pancreas appear to be rare, and there are only sporadic cases available in the literature. This study analyzed the clinical and pathological characteristics of our single patient and 31 previously reported cases in the literature. Assessment of all 32 cases showed no gender differences and a median age of 57 years. The most common site of tumors occurred in the gastric antrum (14/26). Most of the cases were classified according to the Heinrich classification of heterotopic pancreas. The most frequent Class of heterotopia associated with tumors was Class I (11 cases, 42%), followed by Class III (9 cases, 35%). Our patient presented with a Class III heterotopic pancreas. Most of the tumors associated with heterotopic pancreashave been adenocarcinomas (21/32). Other less common types of pancreatic neoplasia included intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (5/32), acinar cell carcinoma (4/32), and neuroendocrine tumors (2/32). With a median follow-up of 18 months, 12 patients (60%) survived and were disease-free, and 5 patients (25%) died of disease. Only 3 patients had recurrence or metastasis after partial tumor resection.

Gastric neuroendocrine tumor arising from heterotopic pancreas

There are few English reports on secondary tumors from heterotopic pancreas. Here, we describe a case of gastric neuroendocrine tumor (NET) arising from heterotopic pancreas. A 72-year-old woman underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy as part of a general health check-up. An endoscopic examination revealed a submucosal tumor on the greater curvature of the gastric body. Laparoscopic and endoscopic...

Early Gastric Cancer Just above a Heterotopic Pancreas

We report the first case of early gastric cancer just above a heterotopic pancreas for which the differential diagnosis was carcinoma arising from heterotopic pancreas. Routine upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in an 83-year-old man with sigmoid colon cancer revealed a gastric cancer in the lesser curvature of the antrum. Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) for evaluating the depth of tumor invasio...

Premalignant lesion of heterotopic pancreas combined with gastritis cystica profunda in gastric fundus.

Heterotopic pancreas, also known as ectopic pancreas, is found mainly in the stomach, duodenum, or jejunum. Pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PanIN) is the non-invasive precursor of pancreatic cancer and gastritis cystica profunda (GCP) is considered a precursor of gastric cancer. As with most putative cancer precursor lesions, the diagnosis and treatment of these lesions has been controver...

Heterotopic pancreatic tissue may be found anywher...

Magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band imaging for gastric heterotopic pancreas

Background and study aims  Heterotopic pancreas is a common subepithelial lesion in the stomach. However, its histological diagnosis is difficult when tissue samples are obtained with a conventional biopsy forceps. This study aimed to describe the magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band imaging (ME-NBI) features of gastric heterotopic pancreas. Patients and methods  We retrospectively analyzed ...
